Little America Hotel Completes Major Expansion and Renovation

If you build it, they will come. It worked for Kevin Costner in Field of Dreams, and it’s working for the Little America Hotel as well.

The luxury hotel, Wyoming’s largest in terms of meeting and convention space, recently completed a 26,000-square-foot addition that equals 10 new meeting rooms, including a new grand ballroom. Also, the old public spaces, such as the lobby, gift shop, coffee shop and meeting rooms, all have been updated.

And these are not your typical convention rooms. Little America retained designer Frank Nicholson, who has decorated Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons properties, to appoint the new space in high style traditional design, according to General Manager Shaun Powis. That means Italian blown glass and Swarovski crystals, oak and mahogany crown molding, English wool carpets and all new silver and stemware.

Powis says the facility space could be renovated in a style Cheyenne deserved, and the response has been terrific. Convention groups and individuals from Cheyenne, Wyoming and Colorado have all been important clients since the renovation. In fact, Powis says the hotel gets about 15 percent of all Front Range and Colorado business.

It makes sense, considering that Cheyenne is the state capital, is between two major interstates and has easy access to the Denver metropolitan area. And the culture of the Cheyenne business community has been very important, as well.

“Cheyenne is very pro-economic development,” Powis says. “Everyone is very aggressive on growing Cheyenne, and Wyoming is a friendly place to do business.”
