Boot Campaign Raises Arts Awareness and Funds for Museum

It is a familiar sight in Cheyenne these days to see eight-foot cowboy boots all over town.
A fundraising campaign called These Boots Are Made for Talkin’ began in 2004 with various artists painting a total of 25 of the tall boots.
The finished products were then sold to the highest bidders, with $104,000 raised by the Cheyenne Depot Museum Foundation.
Most of the boots have been placed in visible spots throughout Cheyenne. Boot names include Rhinestone Cowboy, Eight Seconds to the Big Time, Fishin’ Boot, Wyoming Tough and Don’t Feed the Animals.
Besides being eight feet tall, each boot measures eight feet from heel to toe. As another way to raise funds, the Cheyenne Depot Museum Foundation is offering members of the public the opportunity to order boots that are custom-painted to their specifications. The Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce commissioned a boot to celebrate the organization’s 100th anniversary.
